ISSUE 3

Asia¡¦s Premier Medical Event Ends Today!

Networking Time
It was time to relax last night at the Asian Harmonization Working Party¡¦s cocktail reception. Guests got the chance to enjoy great food, drinks and the opportunity to chat in a conducive environment.
Excellent Exhibiting
Exhibitors at the fair have received enquiries from visitors and made valuable new connections at the fair over the past two days.
"Cochlear is the world leader in cochlear implants for people with severe to profound deafness. More than 170,000 people worldwide have so far benefited from our products. We are pleased to see the establishment of this fair. The medical field is huge and healthcare globally is an emphasis area for all governments that recognise the importance of caring for the health of their populations. Technology moves very quickly so it is critical to match companies that want to trade with each other. We are using this fair to help us in the Chinese mainland in particular, as many distributors from the mainland are here."
Brendan Mason, General Manager, Greater China, Cochlear Ltd, Australia

"We are here to promote our Shield Guard antimicrobial coating for stainless steel plate and tubing. We¡¦ve met lots of buyers from countries including Australia, the Chinese mainland, India and Thailand, and received good feedback ¡V for example, we¡¦ve talked with a manufacturer of wheelchairs who is very interested in cooperating with us. This show has definitely been very useful ¡V we¡¦ve learned more about what customers want and need. The seminars and presentations are a great way for companies to introduce their products and technologies. I also like the location of the venue ¡V it¡¦s very convenient in the centre of the city."
Ivan Chin, Manager (Australia Branch), Master Technologic Co., Ltd, Hong Kong

"We produce a gastric band for morbid obesity, which causes big weight loss in a short time, through laparoscopy surgery. We export to 24 countries, but so far not to Asia. However, lifestyles are changing, especially in the Chinese mainland, and people are getting fatter, so we thought it was the right time to start marketing our gastric band here. We don¡¦t have any presence here in Asia, so this show is very useful. I can use the fair to make contacts with distributors. The organisation of the event is good and the staff have been very helpful."
François Régis Journoud, Export Manager, Medical Innovation Developpement SAS, France

"We are the first company to develop products containing chlorine dioxide, which inactivates virus, bacteria and fungus in our surroundings. Originally developed as a deodoriser, we discovered it also worked against the H1N1 swine flu virus. Our Cleverin products are now in great demand in Japan, and we are about to launch them in Hong Kong, followed by other markets in Asia. We are looking for agents in Asian countries, which is one of our main reasons for attending this show. It is very good that Hong Kong has created this new show ¡V it can act as a platform to send out information to other places around the world. It¡¦s very important for companies with new products to take part in this event."
Takashi Shibata, Deputy President and COO, Taiko Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd, Japan

Professor John Chai, Chairman of the Hong Kong Medical and Healthcare Device Industries Association, addresses the conference.

Hear What Buyers Say
"The variety of products is interesting and I¡¦ve seen a few products as well as new technologies that I am very keen on, such as a sleep apnoea test and body-fat scales. We will do business as a result of visiting the show. The organiser has done a good job; the hall is well laid out and the signage is good."
Jack Gance, Chairman, My Chemist/Chemist Warehouse Group, Australia

"My company operates 40 pharmacies in Thailand, along with another 40 franchises; I am also a wholesaler supplying about 3,000 hospitals and clinics. This is the first time I have attended an overseas exhibition. I¡¦ve come here to look for a range of products including homecare and medical equipment. It¡¦s been interesting to find products that I have not seen elsewhere in the market. I will definitely do business with suppliers I¡¦ve met here. The quality of this fair is very good."
Chaisen Pisanwalerd, Managing Director, Profascino Co., Ltd., Thailand

"I have been very busy here ¡V HKTDC organised meetings for me with 40 exhibitors in advance of the fair according to my areas of interest. I have seen many products that can be important for my company, such as non-contact thermometers, nebulisers, hospital paper and disposable products, and acupuncture products as well as major pieces of hospital equipment and furniture. I have collected a great deal of information and will prepare orders after I return to Romania. I like this fair, my business will definitely benefit as a result. The organisation is very good."
Pompiliu Manea, Owner, Tehno Electro Medical Company, Romania
