Premium Brands in Focus |
 |
Branded eyewear is an essential element of the fashion scene. This is clear from the participation of over 150 important brands from 18 countries and regions in the 2011 Brand Name Gallery. They occupy almost 70% space more than the 2010 Gallery. Click here to view more.
In its third appearance at the Hong Kong Optical Fair, Brand Name Gallery has achieved status as a global trend showcase. It is the choice of many brands for launching new products or unveiling new season collections.

Fashion Trends Influencing Eyewear Design |
 |
“A Global Eyewear Tour – Looking at the Latest Style” was the topic of the seminar held on Day 1 of the fair that drew an eager audience. Ms Hidy Ng (left), renowned international fashion designer spoke about upcoming concepts of eyewear and apparel for Spring/Summer 2012. This was followed by a presentation by Mr James Shyer (right), Chairman of the Vision Council Board of Directors, on US fashion trends and influences, and the development of eyewear brands.

“We are an American subsidiary of L’Amy, one of the largest eyeware manufacturers in France, and we are responsible for Columbia and several other American brands. Our Asian business is growing and we find that many Asians are already familiar with the Columbia brand of outdoor clothing and accessories, so we are participating in the Brand Name Gallery of this show to pick up more retail chains and distributors in markets such as Thailand, Malaysia, Chinese mainland, Korea and Japan. We came here for the first time in 2010 and met an excellent retailer from Indonesia, and we are doing very good business as a result. This year we have already met with potential retailers and distributors from the Chinese mainland, Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia. This is a very good show.”
John R. Johnston, International Sales Manager, L’Amy America, US
Booth: 1B-D12
“We’ve been attending this show since the late 1990s. It is an attractive exhibition because the Chinese mainland is a strategic market and we want to expand there; this fair enables us to promote our image and explain our concept as a design-led brand. We have appointments set up in advance with our local retailers in Hong Kong as well as other mature markets such as Japan; this is a good opportunity to show them our latest collection so they can make their selections in advance of their competitors. Here we can also meet buyers from further afield, such as India and Russia, that we do not see at other shows. This exhibition is a meeting point and very important for us because we can follow up with our current retail partners and keep relations good with them. As far as new contacts are concerned - people we meet here may not be our customers today, but tomorrow they could be!”
Raphael Rambeau, Export Manager Asia, Lafont – Paris, France
Booth: 1B-C09
“As a UK-based company we are not fully exposed in East Asia yet, so this event in Hong Kong is important for us. This is our seventh time here, and every year we find more new customers as a result. This year we are particularly interested in looking for distributors for our contact lenses and lens solutions in new areas such as Korea, Cambodia and Sri Lanka. But exhibiting here is not just about opening up new business; we can also meet many of our existing clients here, even those from Europe. It is a one-stop solution. This is an important show in Asia because it is very international – other regional events tend to be domestic. In addition, we get good service here as everything is very efficient; it is easy to get set up here and communication with organising staff is good.”
Philip Mah, Business Manager, Asia, Sauflon International, UK
Booth: 1C-D17

“This is my 10th visit to this show. I come here to place orders for frames, lenses and sunglasses because I can deal directly with the manufacturers at this exhibition. There are good suppliers here. I expect to place orders worth around US$100,000 this time for my wholesale and retail business – we operate 16 optician shops in Sri Lanka. This is a good show – I particularly appreciate the facilities in the Dragon Lounge, plus I like to use the hotel booking service on the fair website.”
Janaka Fonseka, Director, Vision Care Optical Services (PVT) Ltd., Sri Lanka
“I operate a fashion and lifestyle accessories retail business with 10 outlets in Western Canada and I visit this show to look for private label sunglasses. I like this show because there are many vendors all in one place. My experience is very positive – I will order samples from a number of suppliers and follow up back home. This is a well organised event; for example, the exhibitor location system seems very useful. I will be back next year.”
Danny Mysak, President, Spareparts, Canada
“I have been coming to this show every year for the past 15 years to look for new eyeglass suppliers for my New York-based import, wholesale and distribution business. I can find everything I want here, from mass market to high end, and I mainly buy from the Chinese mainland manufacturers. The exhibition layout is very nice and it’s easy to find my way around using the exhibition guide map.”
William S. Kautsky Jr., Britalia Optical International Inc., US
